Over GLOBALINFO.nl

Meer dan twintig jaar geleden zijn we de website globalinfo.nl begonnen, toen nog onder de hoede van Solidariteitsfonds XminY (tegenwoordig Het Actiefonds, bestaat nog steeds, steun ze). Toen zagen we het als onze taak om goede Nederlandstalige informatie te geven over mondiale economische ontwikkelingen voor de toen zeer actieve transnationale globaliseringsbeweging.

Het allereerste artikel werd op 20 februari 2002 geplaatst en ging over de vrijhandelsorganisatie WTO en de ideologie daarachter en is sindsdien zo’n 15.000 keer gelezen. Dat is lang niet het record, vele artikelen werden tienduizenden keren gelezen en vaak overgenomen door andere websites of afgedrukt in tijdschriften. Sindsdien zijn er duizenden artikelen geplaatst, veelal over grote en kleine protesten en blokkades van topconferenties over vrijhandelsakkoorden en andere economisch spierballenvertoon.

Sindsdien is de website dagelijks bijgehouden en uitgebreid. Het centrale thema is nog steeds de mondiale economische verhoudingen. Hoewel ‘corporate power’ misschien een betere term is, want ‘globalisering’ is inmiddels een beladen ook door extreem rechts gebruikt vijandbeeld. We waren natuurlijk nooit tegen globalisering, schaf alle grenzen maar af, maar we waren tegen de neoliberale kapitalistische machtsgreep over alles en iedereen die toen duidelijk vorm begon te krijgen en waar bewegingen in de hele wereld zich tegen probeerden te verzetten.

We houden van analyses van economie en macht, maar vooral ook van voorbeelden dat links verzet daartegen mogelijk is en resultaten kan boeken. En daar willen we, met uw steun, mee doorgaan. Doneren aan globalinfo.nl.

Ondertussen houden we een waardevol archief in stand van analyses en acties.

Natuurlijk gaat het op globalinfo.nl niet alleen over economie. Dat is immers maar een deel van het hele leven. We schrijven ook over bijbehorende zaken zoals migratie en de strijd tegen extreemrechts, komen met meldingen van opruiende activistische kunst en cultuur en duiken ook in geschiedenis, filosofie en soms ook luchtiger zaken.

In principe proberen we per dag drie nieuwe artikelen te publiceren, deels overgenomen van andere websites, deels vertaald, en deels zelf geschreven.

More than twenty years ago we started the website globalinfo.nl, then still under the auspices of Solidariteitsfonds XminY (nowadays Het Actiefonds, still exists, support them). Back then we saw it as our task to provide good Dutch-language information on global economic developments for the then very active transnational globalization movement.

The very first article was posted on February 20, 2002 and was about the free trade organization WTO and the ideology behind it and that has since been read some 15,000 times. That is far from the record, many articles were read tens of thousands of times and were often copied by other websites or printed in magazines. Since then, thousands of articles have been posted, mostly about large and small protests and blockades of summits on free trade agreements and other economic power plays.

Since then, the website has been updated and expanded daily. The central theme continues to be global economic developments. Although “corporate power” might be a better term, since “globalization” is now a loaded enemy image used also by the far right. Of course, we were never against globalization, let all borders be abolished, but we were against the neoliberal capitalist power grab over everything and everyone that was then clearly beginning to take shape and which movements around the world were trying to oppose.

We love analyses of economics and power, but more importantly we love examples that leftist resistance to it is possible and can achieve results. And we want to continue that, with your support. You can donate here.

Of course, globalinfo.nl is not just about economics. After all, that’s only part of the whole picture. We also write about related issues like migration and the fight against the extreme right, come up with reports of inflammatory activist art and culture, and also dive into history, philosophy and sometimes more lighthearted matters.

Basically, we try to publish three new articles a day, partly taken from other websites, partly translated, and partly written by ourselves.
