RWE 11 dec: Het neoliberale mysterie/ The Neoliberal Mystery

Terwijl de neoliberale (economische) realiteit alomtegenwoordig is, en we een crisis van epische proporties beleven, lijkt de duiding van het wezen van het neoliberalisme juist alleen maar moeilijker te zijn geworden. Hoe komt het dat het monster dat ons belaagt zo moeilijk te (door)zien is? En welke boeken kunnen ons behulpzaam zijn om dat wel te doen. Wat is er zo bijzonder aan die boeken?
Op donderdagavond 11 december worden in Boekhandel de Rooie Rat in Utrecht, in samenwerking met Real World Economics enkele waardevolle pogingen om het neoliberalisme door te zagen, deskundig belicht.
Rijer Hendrikse behandelt dan The New Way of the World van de Franse schrijvers Dardot en Laval. Jacob Zonneberg bespreekt dat andere boek over dit onderwerp dat hoge ogen gooide, Never Let a Serious Crisis Go To Waste van Philip Mirowski. Ook Jamie Peck’s Constructions of Neoliberal Reason komt aan bod, en enig ander werk dat ons kan helpen licht op de duisternis te werpen.
Donderdag 11 december, 20:00 uur Rooie Rat, Oude Gracht 65 Utrecht. De spreektaal zal Nederlands zijn, afhankelijk van publiek kan het Engels worden.

The Neoliberal Mystery
While the neoliberal (economic) reality is omnipresent, and we are living a crisis of epic proportions, the interpretation of the essence of neoliberalism seems to be increasingly difficult. Why is the monster that is ruining our lives so hard to see (through)? And which books can help us to achieve this? What is so special about these books?
On Thursday evening, 11 December, some of the better attempts to understand and critique neoliberalism will be discussed in the Bookshop de Rooie Rat in Utrecht, in collaboration with the Real World Economics-group from Amsterdam.
Rijer Hendrikse will present the book The New Way of the World, from the French writers Dardot and Laval. Jacob Zonneberg will speak about another book on the subject that caused quite some commotion; Never Let a Serious Crisis Go To Waste, by Philip Mirowski. Also discussed will be Constructions of Neoliberal Reason by Jamie Peck, and any other work that can help us to shed some light on the subject.
