SUSAN GEORGE: Another World is possible if…

Participants in the worldwide citizens’ movement for social change and global justice like to proclaim that “Another World is possible.” But is it? To this popular slogan, Susan George adds a cautionary “If”, and proposes how we can indeed reach that Other World.

Shifting the balance of power in favour of citizens takes a hard-headed understanding of globalization, knowledge of the adversaries who prevent change, intelligent organization and exciting yet practical proposals and strategic thinking.

In clear and straightforward prose, drawing on her thirty years of scholarship in the service of social change as well as decades of participation in social movements, George cautions against pitfalls such as violence or basing one’s actions on all-too-common illusions.

Whether you are a seasoned campaigner and confirmed “world-changer”, someone who wonders how you can join in the growing citizens’ movement, or someone who simply wants to know what this movement is about, this presentation is for you!

You will discover that we are not condemned to glaring North-South inequalities, obscene wealth gaps, environmental destruction or inordinate power remaining in the hands of a small minority , if…

SUSAN GEORGE, the author of eleven books, is Associate Director of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam, www.tni.org, as well as Vice-President of ATTAC France (Association for Taxaction of Financial Transaction to Aid)
